Superhero Week: Real Life Superheroes

There actually are people out there who put out a costume and go out to protect their community. And no, we're not talking about police or firefighters or the National Guard. We're talking about real people who take their inspiration from comic books. Rolling Stone featured a fascinating look at some of them - how they live and work and what drives them. Prepare yourself for "The Legend of Master Legend."

The Chicago Shakespeare Theater, with support from Mayor Richard Daley, is trying to get everybody to celebrate Talk Like Shakespeare Day on Thursday, April 23rd. Follow the link to get tips on how to do it.

Of course, you could always steal a few quotes from Shakespeare's plays (available at your local library). The playwright is famous for coining -- that is, making up -- many words and phrases still used today.

Friday Fun: Cream That Egg!

Rube Goldberg was a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist who was famous for his invention cartoons. In each one, he designed hilariously complicated devices to do simple everyday tasks. For example, check out his version of a parachute here. His name was added to dictionaries to describe anything that was unnecessarily complex.

Each year, physics and engineering students in high school and college compete to build a Rube Goldberg contraption that really works to complete a designated task, using a minimum number of actions. The national contest is held in late March at Purdue university.

As Easter approaches, check out this incredibly complex machine for smashing a Cadbury Creme Egg:
